Negative behaviour is rewarded in today’s school. You don’t agree with us? Follow us and visit a classroom, whichever you like, wherever and whenever. You will hear the names of those students who behave badly. Whereas the students who behave well and do what is expected hear seldom their names. That’s why we speak often about the obvious value in seeing and rewarding positive behaviour and ignoring or thoroughly stopping negative behaviour. There is nothing new in that – what is new is that we place this phenomenon in a bigger context.
